Dragon - a poem

I found him in the water
A small Dragon with a billowy tail
And wings like paper
Suspended in the tide

How could you float so free
While inside I was drowning
And why would you leave me

What did your soul need that I couldn't give
When I would do anything for you

He tried to float away
But I would not let him go
I couldn't
So I buried him inside of me
I closed my eyes and I swallowed

Now Dragon, you must stay
For I have clipped your wings
And you can't fly away
